Our prayer is that you would be blessed and strengthened by the power of Jesus Christ and that you will live a life of abundance in fellowship, joy and liberty. West Edgecombe Baptist Church is here for you. It is not a church. It is a fellowship of believers coming together to declare the glory of the Lord and celebrate Jesus as King. We study the Word, practice what we learn and in the process grow together. May God richly bless you!
Humble beginnings, in a log community building in June of 1940, describe how our church began. We were an outgrowth of West Edgecombe Baptist Sunday School, which was a mission effort of Proctor’s Chapel Baptist Church.
West Edgecombe Baptist Church was constituted on October 1, 1944, with thirty charter members. In 1946, the first sanctuary was built and West Edgecombe Baptist Church became known as the “little church with a big heart.”
We exist for the purpose of worshipping through praise, proclamation, witnessing, discipline and ministering the Word of God in our community and around the world. Our affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention helps us to fulfill this purpose.
This church, born out of a vision, has been and continues to be a church with a vision. We look back with gratitude to the many faithful people who have gone before us; and forward with anticipation to what the Lord will continue to do through us.
Our Bible centered Sunday School is focused on helping Christians to understand the Bible and apply its precepts to daily living. The mission organizations are dedicated to caring for the needs of others and sharing God’s love with a lost world.
Children and Youth are a big part of who we are and what we do. The Children’s Ministry is directed by a committed group of parents who make up the Children’s Council, and the Youth are led by our Youth Director and Youth Council. Summer camps, mission trips, and spiritual retreats are parts of the ministries for children and youth of West Edgecombe Baptist Church. In addition to this, Worship Celebrations geared to preschool and children are held each Sunday morning during the morning Adult Worship Celebration.
